I had went to see the $500 Blazer for sale in the ad and found it to be suprisingly nice looking with a fairly recent black paint job and when I saw how well it ran and it had water in the oil. I knew it was not the heads that were bad. It was the intake manifold gasket. A typical problem in the old Chevy 60 dgree V6 engine family. I tore into it a found the leaky spot on the gasket and the thermostat was upside down, I also noticed that it appeared to be a rebuilt engine as well ! It sat 6 months with the manifold off waiting on my lazy butt to put back together and one day late in July 2009, my daily driver 1995 S10 pickup’s transmission went out on a Saturday morning 😦
Anyway, I got REAL motivated to fix my little Blazer and got that thing reassembled and running by Sunday ! I transferred the California title and got the Texas inspection and registration stickers ,insurance by Tuesday! I should mention that I have an exact copy of this Blazer that was an 84, v6 , 4×4, automatic but otherwise identical with a locked up engine and I had already bought in 2007 for $200 and used it as a parts truck for this one to this day….VERY handy
I ended up replacing the radiator, fan, steering column, water pump, alternator, harmonic balancer on T.B.P. all off the parts truck within the first month but all good since then !
All those parts above, except the balancer, where all semi-new on the parts truck.
I had also bought the optional factory aluminum 4×4 wheels ($75) and some new BFG All Terrain T/A’s off Craigslist ($250)

The previous owner, Shannon had overheated the little 2.8l V6 in 2005 and thought a head was cracked as there was water in the oil and the truck was handed of to Rob and Tiana in 2006 where it sat another two years before going up for sale..never getting repaired…but she still started and ran.
PS: Some jerk had tried to steal it and had broken the steering column..

This is the blog for my little 84 S10 Blazer 4×4 that I bought in December 2008 and was lovingly named by its previous owners back in California…that kept a special binder of it with pictures, maintenance records and hand written blog of sorts as it changed owners..
